I had made a real mess of my bag over the last couple of days and it took me much longer than usual to pack it all up. I still had plenty of time though to eat breakfast and check out. I also booked myself a ticket to Phi Phi, one of Thailand's most beautiful islands. I had a week of island hoping in front of me and I was very much looking forward to it.
Around 10 I was picked up by what I can only describe as a backpacker cattle car. Luckily the ride was short and we were soon at the port and then on the way to Phi Phi. While the boat was docking I made sure that I would be one of the first people off of the boat. I had a feeling that accommodation would be tight and I wanted a first shot at it. The one hostel was full and everything else cheap seemed to be as well. Eventually I found a place that was not that expensive, but still five times what I had paid in Krabi. Just as I was finishing up checking in several people from my boat started asking for a room. I got the last one and I was glad that I had hurried.
After dumping my things and checking out my balcony (very cool, but no view) I headed out to find lunch and to explore the little town. There wasn't really much to check out, just repetitive dive shops and regular beach type things. There were a whole lot of bars though. For lunch I actually found a place that made it's own bagels. I had been craving them for some time and it was really yummy. This place is just geared to make people feel at home. I bought a root beer and a Hershey's bar, but neither of them tasted quite right.
Just like in Bali there were massage places at every turn. I felt that it was important blog research to find out what the difference between Balinese and Thai massages. All of the massages that I had in Bali were pretty good. The Thai massage was painful. It was also on a massive bed that could fit several people, the Balinese massages were more private, but at least I could leave my clothes on for the Thai one. The girl giving me my massage spent most of her time elbowing me. I actually ended up with bruises afterwards! i don't know if that is the way they are meant to be or if I need to give it another try in Chang Mai.
Once I had checked out the beach I was at a loss for what to do. I don't see much point to hanging out alone on the beach. In the end I took a nap and spent some time reading. For dinner later I found a place that was playing movies and I stayed there for quite a while. Eventually I headed to the Irish Pub, but I didn't meet anyone so I soon just went back to my hotel and to sleep.
