Lazy Monday

Day 41
We woke up late, too late for the hostel breakfast and too late to see most of Seville. It was Monday anyway and most things were closed.

Our first, and really only stop of the day was Giralda Cathedral. Al had never seen anything like this before and it was a joy to visit it with him. Although, he told me that he didn’t think the entrance price was worth the cost if he had not been able to take pictures. We checked out the different chapels and argued over who was getting the best pictures. The cathedral was nice and definitely worth visiting. The vaulting ceilings looked almost like they were held up by nothing. The choir was amazing and really massively huge. There was even a 1000 year old tower to climb up. It was all ramps and no steps, so it was a little easier than many of the others I’ve climbed have been. The view over Seville was amazing. We were high above all of the other buildings. Giralda Cathedral is not just beautiful, but it has one must see attraction. Christopher Columbus is buried there. His tomb was huge and for some reason the package tourists were rubbing the left foot of his left front pallbearer. We didn’t know why, but we figured that we should give it a go as well.

We were famished after the cathedral and had a pretty questionable lunch. We supplemented that with ice cream cones. Our plans were to head to Morocco the next day. We needed to take a bus and headed to the bus station. We were following my lead and my map. We ended up on the opposite side of town. I´m usually very good with maps and didn´t understand how that had happened. Al made fun of me and pulled out his compass, saying that we that we would never get lost. Thirty minutes later we were where we had started, Al had lead us in circles. It was my turn to make fun.

Just when we were contemplating what to do next an American working in Seville offered us help. We may have been on the wrong side for the bus station, but we were actually quite close to the other bus station and the one that we needed. After sorting out Morocco we spent some time exploring Seville´s University.

We ended the day with chocolate churros and wine.
