Soaked in Seville

Day 40
We had only a few hours of sleep before catching the bus to Seville. It was a bit nerve wracking to get the tickets. The guy at the front desk at the hostel asked us what happened the night before. Al told him that we got confused and thought we had lost the group. They seemed a bit irritated with us.

The bus left at 8 am and the ticket booths opened at 7:30. The lines were quite long and we both were nervous about not making the bus. This was all unfounded and we even had an extra minute for Al to grab some instant coffee.

In just 6 hours we were in Seville. This was bull country and on the way we passed several large bull statues on the side of the road. We managed to find out hostel quickly even without a map and soon were headed out to check out the Alambra, the local royal residence.

Although most of the Alambra was built in a Moorish style, it was actually built by a Christian king. This is evident in the Christian symbols throughout the building. We rented headphones for a guided tour, but I can´t seem to remember much of it. I think I was just too overwhelmed by how beautiful everything was. It was also amazing to be at a place like this with Al who had never seen anything like it before. It was like travel through new eyes or something.

Each room was more amazing than the last. The intricate tiles and carved designs could have kept me enthralled for ages. One of the domes was meant to sparkle like the night sky and it really did. There was a reflecting pool hidden beneath the Alambra. I´m not sure what it was doing there, but it was really cool. The gardens were amazing and we would have liked to have seen more of them. It was raining intermittently and we never had more than a few minutes to check them out.

By the time we had just the outer gardens to check out the sky had really opened up and there was no end in sight. We moved quickly back to the hostel, but were soaked.

Despite the rain we headed back out a few hours later for some tapas and wine. It was a really fabulous meal. After I was pretty tired and decided to head back to the room. It had stopped raining and Al spent some time wandering the streets getting lost, but having a good time.
